Greening Businesses
What role does your businesses play?
In 2020 S4S started a project on greening businesses to promote climate change and sustainability action among business and other organization in Seychelles.
The project is supported by the National Grants Committee that focuses on best practices and highlighting local businesses who are leading the way to a low-carbon, sustainable private sector in Seychelles. The objective was to involve businesses and leaders in assisting, supporting, and promoting green businesses that can help them decrease their environmental impact and combat climate change.
After a series of surveys a seminar were conducted. The results of such surveys and ideal information were presented to numerous stakeholders such as small businesses , government's energy commission, larger businesses e.g. Seybrew ,and other Non-governmental organisation ( NGOs). The workshops consist of numerous representatives presenting their ideas in existence for safeguarding the environment as well as future plans/strategies to implement environmentally safe practices . A great example for this was Seybrew that has the aim of using renewable energy and more efficient water absorbing facilities. A business ambition to return to the environment and community as a social objective to return on their investment based on the inputs used from the environment. e.g . water. One strategy was donating used facilities such as empty alcohol storage tanks to farmers and locals.
As part of this program, S4S is also developing a sustainability-auditing tool to help businesses track their carbon footprint and plan how to work towards being carbon neutral.
